Hi all.
First of all, I'd like to say that I'm really sorry that the project's gone rogue, but I can't do much about it either.

I only have some rights to these forums and to the site itself, not much, though.

I tried to contact Konni once or twice but didn't get no reply, I think he's got stuck in Real Life or something.

I will try and fix the more pressing bugs that're listed here in the trac (http://vcddb.konni.com/dev/trac.cgi) and it's possible to get current svn package from this link, I'm not sure if there's anonymous svn access.

Currently the imdb fetch is working, all data should be fetched correctly.

Please say so if there are some big problems - best report it on the trac site.

I dearly hope Konni will come back with a big BANG that's 1.0 going to be :)

Thanks Saviq, hopefully this is a sign that even though Konni may have gone missing, the community itself is very much alive.

Myself, I just discovered VCD-DB a little bit ago, but I've been very much enjoying it (as well as impressed by the well-written code base).

What really sucks IMHO about Konni's disappearance is it sounds like he was making a lot of progress on 1.0, but no one has access to this code(?).
So even if some of us wanted to take over development, it seems pointless because he might appear any day with this whole new rewrite...

Just gonna throw it out there -- but anyone who has the slightest contact with Konni should bug the hell out of him to get some kind of response -- i.e. Yes, I'm working on this, -- or No, I'm done, but here's where I've got the code -- feel free to continue improving it.

Barring a response and given a suitable amount of time, if he doesn't reply we just setup a new SVN repo/Forum and work with what code we have.

This of course depends largely on whether there's still a large enough and interested enough community to handle this type of endeavor.

Please correct any of my assumptions if needed and voice your criticism/support of this idea.

-- FYI - Where I'm coming from is I really like this app, and am a PHP coder by trade, but feel that it would be pointless to expend much in the way of effort if its just going to get thrown out -- if and when Konni re-appears with his new code rewrite.

-- other important question in the eventuality Konni is gone for good -- is there any similar Web App as capable as VCD-DB -- I've looked high and low and haven't found any (web app) that compares and thats in active development...?
(I've seen powerMovieLister and besides being defunct since 2006, VCD-db's code is far, far superior)

Well it hasn't even been a year since last release so I wouldn't assume that Konni's gone. As far as I know I'm the only one with write access to svn / admin on trac (besides Konni, of course).

I've cleaned up the tickets in the trac and will try and get a 0.992 bugfix release in the mean time.

I'll try harder to get in touch with Konni, too. I wouldn't even dream of having his amount of PHP experience and that's why I wouldn't like to take the code somewhere else, I really believe he'll be back, eventually.

[edit]
I've fixed some more important long-standing bugs, I'm not sure how much time I'll have through the week, we'll see how it goes.

A Bugfix release would be a good first step, with all the new fetch Classes etc. in it.
So there would be a "out-of-the-box" useable Version of VCDDB again.

A big bang with v1.0 would be very nice! Hopefully we can migrate our current movies to v1.0.

A bugfixed version is also very welcome for the time being.

Tnx, Jeroen.

To anyone who's listening and interested ;)

I've just commited quite a bit chunk of code that now allows us to make metadata public.

Also, it's now possible to search through metadata (in the advanced search menu), too.

The update needs a small database upgrade and it definitely needs solid testing.

Please, try your vcddbs with latest head (as stated before, available here. Be sure to backup your installations before and try all issues that're said to be fixed (as listed here).

Cheers :]

Thanks for the update Saviq, I've been looking for this for quite some time.

What needs to be done to the database to make this update work?

Thanks again,
A

Just run the /setup/upgrade.php script, it should do what's needed.

Don't forget to clear your /upload/cache/ directory or clear the cache through the administration panel.

[edit]
Another big update came in, it's now possible to sort the category views.
Also, bugs #203 and #207 are fixed.

Selecting 'All' takes a _lot_ of time, I'll try and find a way to speed it up.

Update process worked. Thanks!

All Fetches seem to work except Adultdvdempire, Jaded and BushDVD. The 1st 2 give me a

VCDFetch.php
Line 116
Fetch ID = 0
Error

Would be great if you could fix that. Thanks in advance and thumbs up for the great work!

Yeah I don't use the adult part of vcddb at all... It would be great if someone else could look into that, I've enough to do in the non-pr0n part.

When I do a detailed search I get the following error when using any of the new fields:

TypeError: form is undefined

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Yeah I noticed that some time ago but didn't manage to fix it, yet. It's probably a simple to fix glitch, but unfortunately I've no time to spare atm.

Yes I managed to get a hold of him and he's supposed to get me up-to-date with his status ASAP...

That was around a month ago...

I think life really got the hang of him.
